Our History
212 Squadron was formed in 2002 by John Allen its founder who is still with the group 21 years later! He was joined by Wayne Ladd and Clive Deacon the original members. Created to originally focus on the 'Battle of Britain' period of the war the group rapidly grew in strength. Airshows and other venues realised with the help of John the value of having historically accurate, uniformed personnel who had an in depth knowledge of WW2 aircraft and amazing collections of equipment that they were willing to display at their events. Visitors were treated to what was more like a time machine than just the traditional idea of an event at an airfield or show.
With the growth of the group the idea of a an Ops Room formed, but it was the brilliantly inventive "Tommo" Thompson who really made it become a reality with his knowledge of electronics and eye for detail. The result was a brilliant, interactive, working WW2 display which has been seen by thousands of visitors over the years.
With 212 Squadron's reputation growing, invitations to official commemorative events also increased. Prince Michael of Kent met members of 212 at the Capel-Le -Ferne Battle of Britain Memorial Service, a real honour for the Squadron members present on the day.
Within the time the group has been formed we have been lucky enough to meet many WW2 veterans from all services and also their families. One of those veterans was Battle of Britain Pilot, Squadron Leader Geoffrey Wellum DFC.
These moments stand out for us as they are moments we will always treasure as we look forward to the next 21 years!
